PA Projection
- Seat the patient at the end of the table;
- Lower limbs remote from the radiation;
- Upper limb resting on the table;
- Place the extended finger with the palmar surface down;
- Separate the digits slightly.
Central ray
perpendicular to the proximal interphalangeal joint.
Evaluation
Criteria:
- No rotation of the digit;
- View the entire digit, including the metacarpophalangeal joint;
- Digit centered and aligned with the center of collimation;
- Not visualization the soft tissue of adjacent digits;
- Appropriate exposure values (visualization of the all bony trabeculation and soft tissue).
Lateral Projection
- Seat the patient at the end of the table;
- Lower limbs remote from the radiation;
- Upper limb resting on the table and the digit in profile:
Second digit makes the outer profile.
Central ray
perpendicular to the proximal interphalangeal joint.
Evaluation
Criteria:
- Digit extended, aligned and centered with the center of collimation;
- Entire digit in lateral position (condyles should be overlapped);
- Visualization of the metacarpophalangeal joint;
- Not visualization the soft tissue of adjacent digits;
- Appropriate exposure values (visualization of the all bony trabeculation and soft tissue).
