Clavicle study



AP Projection


  1. Patient in upright position;
  2. Upper limbs along of the body;

Central ray perpendicular to the middle of the clavicle.
Respiration: Suspended at the end of expiration.


Evaluation Criteria:

  • Visualization of the entire clavicle;
  • Superimposed of the medial half in the thorax;
  • Appropriate exposure values (visualization of the all bony trabeculation and soft tissue).



AP axial Projection



  1. Patient  in upright position (if patient cold, standing in lordotic position).

Central ray angled 0-15º if the patient it is in lordotic position or angled 15-30º directed to enter in the middle of clavicle.
Respiration: Suspended at the end of the expiration.




Evaluation criteria:

  • Visualization of the most clavicle projected above the ribs and scapula with the end of the medial clavicle overlapped to the first and second rib;
  • Clavicle in horizontal placement;
  • Visualization of the entire clavicle with acromio-clavicular and sternoclavicular joints;
  • Appropriate exposure values (visualization of the all bony trabeculation and soft tissue).
