Wrist Study




PA Projection

  1. Seat the patient at the end of the table;
  2. Lower limbs away from the radiation;
  3. Forearm resting on the table;
  4. Hand in pronation;
  5. Flexing the digits to place the wrist in close contact with the IP.
Central ray perpendicular to the midcarpal area.


Evaluation Criteria:


  • No rotation in carpals, metacarpals, or radius;
  • visualization of distal radius and ulna, carpals and proximal half of metacarpals;
  • Appropriate exposure values (visualization of the all bony trabeculation and soft tissue).

 

Lateral Projection


  1. Seat the patient at the end of the table;
  2. Lower limbs away from the radiation;
  3. Supporting the forearm and upper arm at an angle of 90 º;
  4. Hand in strict profile and fingers in extension at an angle of 90 º with the IP.

Central ray perpendicular to the wrist joint.



Evaluation Criteria:
  • Hand in strict profile;
  • Superimposed distal radius and ulna;
  • Superimposed metacarpals;
  • Appropriate exposure values (visualization of the all bony trabeculation and soft tissue).
